Thanksgiving here for us is small – it’s just me, my husband, and his immediate family (parents & sister). I cook all day and usually make two pies – one apple and one pumpkin. This year, since the Twofer pie fell during Thanksgiving week and we were given more time to bake it so that we could include it on our Thanksgiving table, I decided to replace my usual pumpkin pie with the Twofer pie.
The baking process was fine – no problems at all, which I was grateful for after reading on the TwD message boards about other bakers’ pies overflowing in their oven (I did set my pie pan on a lined baking sheet to catch any spills just in case!). I did add 20 minutes to the baking time as many others did, and used my own pie crust recipe (it’s my own all butter recipe that I swear by, have never used shortening before).
But honestly, the pie was only okay. I’ve never had pecan pie before and am not sure I’m crazy about that corn syrup filling. I found myself wishing it was just a straightforward pumpkin pie. I don’t think it was really a flaw with the recipe itself, but just personal preferences. I don’t think anybody else really liked it either, though my in-laws are way too polite to actually say so. I even went so far as to make a normal pumpkin pie the next day.
So this definitely won’t make its way into my Thanksgiving repertoire, but I can see how others would enjoy it.
Check out other bakers’ experiences at the Tuesdays with Dorie blogroll, and the recipe can be found here at La Casserole Carree.

It looks beautiful, so I’m sorry it wasn’t a big hit. At least everyone got their pumpkin pie soon after though, right?
Thank you Carmen, for participating with me this week!
I’d sorry the pie didn’t live up to your expectations… but at least I’m comforted by the fact that it did, to others.
Nervetheless, your pie looks amazing… BRAVO!
Yes, I stuck to Pumpkin. Your pie looks darn good. I would still eat it.
Aww, thanks!! You should have, I had to throw most of it out after no takers for a few days.
I wasn’t exactly thrilled with the pie either. I actually have a family recipe for pumpkin pie with pecans on top that’s much tastier (and doesn’t involve corn syrup). I blogged about it the same week I made the two-fer pie. Everyone at work and at home loves my family’s recipe, so you might want to give it a try.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll look for it on your blog and try it out.
